Holy DVD Prettiness, Aang!

GAH! This is pretty. I don’t need it. I have all three books on DVD already and yet… I may not be able to resist buying it. Ingore my drooling and take a look:

I already knew about it (Jody keeps me up-to-date on everything TV on DVD related!) but couldn’t resist posting the picture that came with the press release I got today. And, I’ll be honest, if they did a version of this for each of the books and sold them as a collector’s set? I’d totally buy it. Regardless of cost! It’s just so snazzy.

Instead I’m not sure I can justify getting this one. For one, like I said, I already have all three books. I don’t really need two copies of Book 1. For another, y’all know about my OCD issues with my TV DVDs. Not sure I can deal with one looking so different than the other two. Still, it’s a sweet looking DVD set. Another reason to hope this summer’s movie* doesn’t suck. If it makes tons of money and they make the other two, maybe we will get a version of these covers for each? This fangirl can only hope.

For those of you who don’t already have the DVDs and/or can’t resist the prettiness of the artwork, here are the deets about the Collector’s Edition coming out this summer:

  • Street Date: June 22, 2010
  • Catalogue: 893254
  • DVD SRP: $57.99
  • DVD Running Time: 533 Minutes
  • DVD Bonus Features:
    • Behind-the-Scenes with the Avatar Cast & Crew
    • Avatar Pilot Episode with Audio Commentary
    • The Making of Avatar – Inside the Sound Studios
    • The Making of Avatar – Inside the Korean Animation Studios
    • Avatar Documentary
  • Also Included: Exclusive preview edition of Avatar: The Last Airbender – the Art of the Animated Series, a book that provides a unique, insider’s view of the amazing designs, storyboards, paintings and animation.

* OMG! I finally saw the trailer for the movie on the big screen and, not gonna lie, it looks pretty damn awesome. The casting choices still drive me nutso but, damn, if I’m not excited to see the movie now.

Never seen this show–but that packaging sure looks nice.

As much as I like uniform packaging, I’d rather they release the TV on DVD/Blu in the thinnest packaging possible–I’m extremely low on shelf space these days. It would be nice if all the studios offered free packaging upgrades like Universal Studios recently did for the BSG Blu-Ray box set. Thus allowing us to replace the old huge boxes with uniform, smaller packaging.

I knew the Monk sets would never switch to thinner packaging halfway through–if there was ever a series that needed uniform boxes, that would be it! ;)

Kyle! You should watch it. It’s goooooooooooood. I know it’s a “cartoon” but it’s delightful and has great characters.

I hear you on the thinner packaging. I have no problem with it as long as it, too, is uniformly done. I think that’s why I like collections instead of individual seasons because it takes up much less space. Except I hate those collections that are weird sizes and really long. Those are NOT helpful.

But, yes, I imagine Monk and his too many seasons to count DVDs would definitely benefit from smaller packaging.
