Early Look: Burn Notice’s “Do Not Harm”

BURN NOTICE returns this Thursday at 10PM on USA.The return episode of Burn Notice this Thursday at 10PM on USA is pretty damn awesome. Written AND directed by Matt Nix, it’s the very definition of MUST SEE TV. I’ve already seen it twice now and I still plan to tune in at 10PM on Thursday night. That’s how good it is!

Don’t worry, I’m not going to spoil you. You know me better than that. But I do have to tease the episode a bit because I really don’t want anyone to miss it.

First, let’s recap where last we saw Michael Westen. You know, falling from the sky onto the roof of his car courtesy of a booby-trapped front door. Now you guys know Michael Westen as well as I do, do you think he took kindly to this little surprise? Noooo siree!

I had kind of forgotten the Michael Westen we first met in the pilot. Yes, he takes down bad guys in pretty much every episode but I’d been lulled into a sense of complacency about his anger over his burn notice. After all, he’s kind of had to cool his jets and let others push him around for a while so that he can figure out how to get the upper hand. And while he’s not exactly free of outside forces, he’s also about hit the ceiling of his patience with the whole matter. And, really, can we blame him? I mean, if you try to blow me up, I’m probably going to be a little cranky too.

Anyway, I didn’t realize how much I needed Michael to get fired up until it happened. Possibly because Jeffrey Donovan’s “pissed off spy” is all kinds of hot. No, really, the show needed to raise the stakes a little and shake up Michael a bit. I know everyone involved in the show has repeatedly said that the show only works if Michael is well and truly stuck in Miami so it’s not like this whole mess is going to be solved any time soon. But we do need to the reminders that, despite all the other things he’s doing, Michael’s still got one primary goal in his life at the moment. If Thursday’s episode is any kind of indicator, we’re in for one hell of a roller coaster ride during the second half of the season.Michael and Fiona don swimware to work their scheme on BURN NOTICE. © USA Network / Photo: Glenn Watson

So there’s that. Then there’s the story of the week in which Michael agrees to help the father of a sick boy when he loses all his money in a medical scam. It’s pretty moving and Michael gets everyone involved with the situation. I can’t say much about it without giving things away but I will say that Fiona gets at least one primo moment in which I was cheering her on. Plus! Jeffrey and Gabrielle don some really skimpy swimware for the cause and YOWSERS!!

Matt Nix gives us several laugh out loud moments, some intense character-building dramatic moments, AND SKIMPY SWIMWEAR! What the heck more could you ask for in one episode? I’m telling you, it’s not to be missed. So watch. Burn Notice. Thursday @ 10PM. USA.

In the meantime, enjoy a few more photos from the new episode:

Jeffery Donovan is the best actor ever for this part, the writing for this show is amazing, I for one can tell you I am so happy it got greenlit for a 3rd season. I’m already depressed for the day this show will one day end.
