Why You Should Watch NBC’s “Bionic Woman” Tonight, by Jody & Rae

NBC's new bionic women, Michelle Ryan and Katee Sackhoff, face off.I had great plans to write about why you should watch Bionic Woman tonight but, as sometimes happens, I got busy with the day job and real life. Rae was supposed to pester me until I did it but apparently she’s got the same day job/real life issue that I do. So, when she finally emailed me about it today, I decided our email exchange about the show would have to do…

R: JO! Bionic Woman starts tonight! We forgot to tell people to watch. How will they know that we like it? Ok, it’s about a woman who kicks some serious ass and I guess that’s kind of a give away but you know what I mean.

JJ: I know!! Darn real life getting in the way of our TV pimping! I’m worried that people are going to miss out on Bionic Woman because those critics are giving it a bad rap. I really enjoyed the pilot, and that was before it was reworked… so I think everyone should definitely tune in and see the ass kickin’ for themselves. First off, we have the great minds behind BSG working to make BW awesome – what more could people want to know??

R: That you can’t go wrong with chicks with superpowers? That alone trumps any backstage issues, plot holes, boring boyfriends, or lame special effects of said chicks running really fast. Right?

JJ: Right! I mean you have Michelle Ryan who is smokin’ hot and can seriously kick some ass (once she gets her new parts all figured out that is). And we mustn’t forget to mention Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck!) who’s also smokin’ hot and is kickin some ass for the bad guys! Plus, the boring boyfriend issue resolves itself pretty quickly so that’s really not a reason to miss out on the rest of the show. But again, HOT chicks kickin’ ass! What more is there??

R: We’re so predictable. My favorite scene? The fight scene on the roof. Wanna guess why?

JJ: Hmm… is it because of the HOT chicks kickin’ ass?? Because they really do kick some ass. Especially in that scene. I’m torn on my favourite moment… it might be right at the beginning when she first realizes what her legs can do, OR it might be right at the end when she realizes what she has to do. I’m also really looking forward to meeting her new little sister. I wasn’t that fond of the sister they had in the original pilot… she didn’t really fit.

And, one final question before we both go home and get ready to watch… you’ve seen both versions of the pilot, do you think they did a good job with the changes?

R: Correction: it’s because of the HOT chicks kickin’ each other’s asses. But to answer your question: yes and no. I like the new sister A LOT and I’m stopping there ‘cuz otherwise I’ll go on and on about why. They also changed a few special effects and I approve. However, there were also some consistency issues created that I’m afraid will bug people but hopefully won’t stick out too much. I’ll be curious to hear reactions from those who will be seeing it for the first time tonight!

Bionic Woman premieres tonight @ 9PM on NBC!

And don’t forget, once you’ve seen it, come back and let us know what you thought! Do you like hot chicks kickin’ ass as much as we do or do you need a little more from your Bionic Woman?

I unfortunately had some issues. I hadn’t seen anything or read anything about it other than Katee was on it so I went into it cold. What I liked:

    Katee Sackhoff
    The opening with crazy Katee
    the sister

    What I didn’t like:

Almost everything else. I see potential in the characters but I thought they tried to cram too much into one hour (seriously I was confused), they didn’t spend enough time letting me get to know the characters and I found Michelle Ryan a little too one note.

I’ll give it another chance but I’m dangling on the verge. Please don’t throw things.

Boy, did you ever get this one right — ratings-wise. :) I thought this was a great Pilot, too — but I was shocked to see how many people watched!

I need to go to you for all my TV predictions next year, clearly — first “Heroes,” now this. You know how to pick the hits! :)

I actually hated the pilot..I couldn’t relate to ‘Jaime’ at all. I didn’t even make it through the entire pilot, which is saying a lot, given that I was able to watch the pilot for Moonlight. None of the characters made me care about them enough to actually want to watch a second episode and in fact, I actively disliked ‘Jaime’. I just couldn’t understand why she of all people was the one that the doctor loved and wanted to ‘save’ as I didn’t see anything great about her.
