New Week, New TV

So, people, there’s a new show starting tonight on CBS called Rules of Engagement. I had a press release for it that I’ve been holding on to FOREVER so I could post it today… only it’s on my laptop, which has shunned me and refuses to even start up anymore. Instead, I refer you to Ducky’s recent entry about the show which inlcudes the press release. In conclusion, new show tonight: Rules of Engagement, 9:30PM, CBS

I have no new TV to talk about. I didn’t watch the Super Bowl because I’m not into football. Instead of staying up for the one new show I had last night, The L Word, I decided to take the opportunity to go to sleep early. Over the weekend I watched more of Avatar, which I now officially love, as well as Psych, Grey’s Anatomy, and Bones. All three get big thumbs up from me but I hardly ever talk about them anyway so you won’t miss any actual commentary.

I have now finished “Runaways” Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 and am jonesing for issues #13-24. (Yeah, the numbering completely messes me up too.) Honestly, I’d rather wait until Vol. 3 comes out in April but I don’t know if I can wait that long. I think I may break down and try tracking them down in comic book stores around town. The love I feel for this series reminds me of my comic book love of yesteryear. It’s about characters who kickass and not just kicking ass. Plus, it’s chalk full of strong females… how could I not love it?

Speaking of comics, I fell behind on the Heroes interactive novels after the holidays. I figured they weren’t putting any new ones out since the show was on hiatus… how silly of me! I spent some time getting caught up and now feel inspired to ask if you’ve been reading? If no, why not?! It’s like a little extra slice of the show each week. You really should check them out if you have some time to kill. And, hey, the show is new tonight and this is the perfect way to get excited for tonight! This is the first episode of sweeps so I have high hopes that it’ll be awesome.

In other news, I also watched an advance copy of February 21st’s Jericho this weekend and it was awesome. I’ve been holding off on watching it so I could post a review closer to the actual air date but I gave in to temptation when I had nothing to watch last night. Man, I didn’t realize how much I was missing this show. I’ll post a more in-depth review (and the press release info for the episode) next week just in time for the summary/review/catch-up episode they are airing to get people caught up on the story so far.

Sorry to make this “TV” post all about comics but I find I have to return to them for a second… between Serenity, Runaways, and the stuff we keep seeing for Buffy S8, I have a major crush on Jo Chen’s work. She’s amazing. Dark Horse just released the info for Buffy #3 including the cover art. It’s beautiful! I saw it last week when [info]cdn_tvaddict pointed me at Jo’s MySpace profile but I’m glad that it’s finally been officially released for others to Oooh and Ahhh over too.

On my schedule for tonight: Prison Break, How I Met Your Mother, The Class, Heroes, Rules of Engagement, and Studio 60

I want so bad to read the Heroes online comics, but I can’t get it to work, no matter what I try. I can only see the first page of the first one and it won’t go any further. Sometimes I can only get half of that page. Why is I sew dum?

    U R knot duum!

It’s probably just the Flash not wanting to work on your computer? Does the “printable version” also not work for you? Try right clicking on those links and “Save Target As…” Those are all PDF files that should work for you and, if you download them to your computer, you won’t even have to wait for it to load as you’re viewing. :)

PS: To answer your comment from over the weekend (when I was computer-less), I was not the girl who stayed home to watch Dawson’s! However… I probably would have. I just didn’t have siblings my age so I was never forced to attend things for them. I was in college when Dawson’s was on and I would never go out on those nights because I didn’t want to miss my show!

Wooooooooooooooo. Tell me your favorites! Favorite episode so far! Favorite character! Favorite line! Favorite moment!

This is the first episode of sweeps so I have high hopes that it’ll be awesome.
The radio announcer assured me that it will be the GREATEST THING HUMANITY HAS EVER SEEN.

I have tried that, but you know, I think I’ll try it again. Sometimes when something doesn’t work one day, it will another. Such are the mysteries of life, or whatever : )

I knew you were the youngest ofyour sisters, but I didn’t know the age differences. I thought maybe one was in college (okay, hoping because I wanted it to be you so bad LOL) and colleges had NHS societies. It was so wild when I read that and thought it sounded like you and then noticed it was your name. Hee!

    *hugs*

So the Buffy S8 comic is already out? I’m confused about that whole thing. So Joss is writing it as if we’d gotten an 8th season, right? And how many issues will there be total? I’m not one for comics much to be honest, but I am curious about this series since I’m dying to know what would have happened if the show hadn’t wrapped.

Really? Man, your radio announcer is setting the bar high, eh?

    Wooooooooooooooo. Tell me your favorites!
Favorite episode so far! Favorite character! Favorite line! Favorite moment!

I dunno!!! You gotta give me until the end of Book 1 at least. (Which will be tomorrow night after I recieve the last DVD.) How can I pick just one?! I love Aang but I adore Katara… then again Sokka is the best. And, man, I even love Prince Zuko… who should totally be the powerful bender that Katara falls for but it’s probably too early to be predicting that.

And, see, that’s not including Momo or Appa. Hmm, ok, Iroh might be my favorite. At this moment, I think June is probably my favorite secondary character. I dunno if we’ll ever see her again but I liked her.

The King of Omashu, The Fortune Teller, and The Deserter are probably my current favorites. The King for the King. The Fortune Teller because I’m a sucker for “fate/destiny” type of episodes and I liked the way they handled it. The Deserter because they finally acknowledged that Aang can do more than just air and water bend. The Great Divide was my least favorite because it kept frustrating me that Aang wasn’t even trying to earth bend. I know he hasn’t mastered the others yet so it’s probably too early but sometimes it’s like they all forget that he does have it in him to do it.

Hmmm… one of my favorite moments is also one of my favorite lines. When we have Prince Zuko looking at the map and then we cut to Aang looking at the same map:

PRINCE ZUKO: How am I going to find the Avatar? He is clearly a master of evasive maneuvering.
SOKKA: You have no idea where you’re going, do you?

Hmm, I guess I kind of love “The Blue Spirit” too if just for the scene as Prince Zuko is waking up and Aang asks him if they could have been friends in another time. And I bring it up because the last scene in that episode is also one of my favorites… when Aang gets back and stuffs frozen frogs in their mouths and then collapses on Appa. There’s no reason for it but it sticks out in my mind.

OH! And, haha, it has this moment – another of my faves:

    AANG: You’re insane, aren’t you?
    HERB WOMAN: That’s right!

    Other Favorite lines:

“There’s no way we’re going to catch a warship with a canoe.”

“Did the definition of ‘genius’ change in the last hundred years?”

“Wait! My friends need to suck on those frogs!”

“He’s a gigantic, fluffy monster with an arrow on his head! It’s kind of hard to miss him!”

Hmmm. There’s one from The Fortune Teller that I love about semantics but I can’t remember what it is right now. Anyway, you get the point!

Not yet. The first issue comes out March 7th. The second one is out… April 4th I think and then the third on May 2nd.

I’m not sure how many issues there will be total. Last I heard it’d be somewhere between 20 and 30 issues total. And, yes, Joss is writing it as though we’d gotten an 8th season… which means that it should be taking place at the same time as S5 of Angel.

I do know that he supposedly has former ME writers on board to write issues as well. I’m not sure how many will be written by him as opposed to others but I do know the first few are definitely penned by Joss.

I think it will be interesting to see where he goes with it. I like comics so I’m also interested in the comic part of it… and so far I’m loving the artist they’ve got working on it. That’s the part I get picky about. Still, I think it’d be worth it for you to check out the first comic at least and see if you like it.

Wow! Envy has no words :)
Can’t wait for the show to come back on … all the speculations in my mind give me a headache.

Oh, don’t be envious! If you were here, I’d have invited you to watch with me. Plus, now I’m cursed to have to wait one more week for something new.

This episode was great because it shows us the day and a half before the bombs so you get some nice background information on people.

    You even have an icon!!

And, man, I even love Prince Zuko… who should totally be the powerful bender that Katara falls for but it’s probably too early to be predicting that.
    NOT YOU TOO.

    The King for the King.
    Lettuce leaf?

The Fortune Teller because I’m a sucker for “fate/destiny” type of episodes and I liked the way they handled it.
I initially didn’t think much of it, but it’s become one of my favorites because it’s just a really enjoyable, funny filler ep. And it has one of my favorite lines in the series:

“Look! Can your fortunetelling explain that?”
“Chuh. Can your science explain why it rains?”
    “YES! YES IT CAN!”

The Deserter because they finally acknowledged that Aang can do more than just air and water bend.
That’s an okay ep, though fire is good. “I serve a man. More than a man really, he’s a myth, but he’s real…”

The Great Divide was my least favorite because it kept frustrating me that Aang wasn’t even trying to earth bend. I know he hasn’t mastered the others yet so it’s probably too early but sometimes it’s like they all forget that he does have it in him to do it.
He needs a teacher, though. The ability is innate within him, sure, but there’s more to it than just waving your arms and concentrating. It takes some discipline. I never really thought about that during the episode; it’s one of my least favorites just because it’s…not that good, overall, and the animation is bleh except for the amusing flashbacks. “Or you could call it lying.”

Hmm, I guess I kind of love “The Blue Spirit” too if just for the scene as Prince Zuko is waking up and Aang asks him if they could have been friends in another time.
Yeah, that’s a pretty awesome scene. It’s just lovely and subtle and cute and one of those moments that says, “This isn’t just a silly kid’s show, okay?” Okay, maybe it’s not exactly supersubtle, but it’s just that until that moment, you never really even conceive of the idea of Aang and Zuko being friends, and Aang is so innocent when he muses upon it, and you suddenly see it, and it’s just so wow.

    AANG: You’re insane, aren’t you?
    HERB WOMAN: That’s right!

    Ha, yes, I love that.

“Did the definition of ‘genius’ change in the last hundred years?”
The “hundred years” jokes never get old!

There’s one from The Fortune Teller that I love about semantics but I can’t remember what it is right now. Anyway, you get the point!
I do! I demand you write more about Avatar, especially when you watch the second season, which blows the first season out of the water.

Rules of Engagement looks fun, but it’s opposite Heroes, which makes it damned inconvenient.

Yay! You’re finally all caught up on the novels! Now I can stop saying that. ;)

I LOVE the reveal on the marks on their necks. And after the clip I saw of Hana, I can’t wait to see her in an episode!

True… I taped and watched it later but I was enjoying not having another show on at the same time as Heroes. Have to say… it was pretty funny. Not sure if it’ll maintain that week to week, though.
