Oh, Friday Night

First up, I got home tonight to find a car blocking my driveway. I live on a cul-de-sac and my neighbors driveway and mind kind of form a piece of pie, which means the ends of our driveways are pretty close together. Well, my neighbors have friends over tonight and the friend driving the big-ass black SUV with a tricked out bike rack on the top (like, seriously, this bike rack is scary looking) parked his SUV at the end of their driveway… IN THE STREET, ALMSOT COMPLETELY BLOCKING MY DRIVEWAY. A clear violation of the Neighbor Code.

And I got home late so it’s not like the neighbors didn’t have time to ask him to move it out of my way (which, I must say, they are usually very good about). Whatever annoying SUV owner. Pulling around him (her?) was a bit tricky too. Sprint delivered the new phonebooks today and by delivered I mean they had people being paid less than minimum wage drive around in a dodgy van with the door open tossing new phonebooks bundled up in Sprint bags at the foot of everyone’s driveways. I had to maneuver around the bag of phonebooks so that I wouldn’t run it over and fuck up the bottom of my car. So much for backing in – you know, in case I need to make a quick exit or something.

Moving along, or backwards in time as the case may be, I made a trip to Barnes & Noble tonight. I had a gift card burning a hole in my pocket and there were some books released this week that I couldn’t wait to purchase. I gathered all of the books on my list and then wandered over to the Entertainment section, as I am wont to do these days. I considered a Lost book but quickly discarded it in favor of various Buffy/Angel/Firefly selections. Once I was done flipping through those, I began to peruse the rest of the selection. I don’t know what I was looking for… inspiration? Who knows.

Then I saw this and my gut reaction (one that was possibly spoken out loud before I realized I wasn’t alone in the section) was, “I have to buy this.” Is that silly? I don’t know what I’ll do with it. My immediate thought was that I could start picking out places and checking their websites for listings. I hate cold calling but checking out websites I can do forever. In the end, I didn’t buy it. It was $64.95 and I was torn. I had the gift and that would have knocked $25 off the price but I knew it meant putting back everything else I had. I will tell you that I was still debating it, even after I paid.

Now, of course, I’m glad I didn’t buy it there seeing as how I can get it on Amazon for $20+ cheaper anyway. Only… in checking Amazon, I found this. What to do, what to do? I don’t know that there’ll be much of a difference between the Fall 06 version and Winter 07 version but it seems silly to pay that much money and not get the newest version, right? Even if it means having to wait until the 15th (really the 17th unless it ships early) instead of getting it next week. On the one hand, I want it as soon as possible. On the other, there are places to start checking in the meantime that I wouldn’t need the book for and, oddly enough, the newer one is slightly cheaper. What do ya think? (In case you haven’t figured it out, I’ve kind of made my decision but talking it out here helps reinforce that I’m making the right one!)

While at the bookstore, I found out one of my favorite authors will be there for a signing next Friday. Yay! I’m annoyed that I didn’t get a notification about that since I’m signed up on the mailing list but happy that I managed to find out anyway. M & I also tried to narrow down where I should hold my 30th birthday shindig. We did not, of course, but we tried. At this point, I’m pretty certain it’s going to be in Florida. I don’t want to waste too much time traveling which, oddly enough, knocks Key West out of the running (along with Miami, even though that was never a very serious consideration anyway). I was supposed to look up info on Disney’s Vacation Resorts when I got home but apparently Disney doesn’t want me to stay with them because the website is not currently available. Who knew trying to make a simple decision could be so hard? Don’t answer that.

And, randomly, the M&M’s minis tubes currently have different character tops and the faces the different characters are making crack me up. Also, I’m having way too much fun “Popping the Top” by squeezing the tube.

Be honest, you wish you had Friday nights as exciting as this don’t you?

This totally random, but I have sick kid and will probably be up all night, so random’s gonna keep me company. I had a whole plate of bean dip an hour ago and I think I may puke.

I want some of those M&M’s now.

My Friday night so far has consisted of watching Jake 2.0 on Sci-Fi, cleaning my bedroom and kitchen, and giving myself a facial sauna. Now I plan to do my Rose Bowl LJ post and then either watch FNL or LAWKI. It’s quite exciting. Heh.

I was contacted last year by a guy who worked for a company who publishes a book just like that. He wanted to put my contact info for ROL in there. I don’t think it was the same book, but I’m not sure. It was something just like that–a Hollywood directory.

I saw your post. :( But the picture was pretty!! She looked beautiful in her dress.

*FedEx’s you some of the M&M’s*

Also, don’t puke… then you’ll have to clean up and we both know that’s no fun.

Crap! I forgot to tape Jake 2.0. I knew there was something on tonight that I was supposed to be taping.

Also, you’re giving yourself a facial sauna… that’s exciting! The cleaning stuff, not so much. ;)

Was the guy who contacted you from something like… crap, I can’t remember… TEPC? TPEC? I got a contact like that, for my blogging info at least. I think that’s the directory for PR. This one is for production companies and the like. There are bigger name directories but they cost in the $200 range. That’s way more than I’m willing to spend. Mo pointed out that I could go to the library to use it but I want to be able to look through it in the comfort of my home and pick out the places that interest me. I suck at this type of stuff but I’m determined to make this happen so I figure it can’t hurt.

Aw, thanks. I can’t wait until she gets home to here whether she had a good time.

Tabitha’s temp got to almost 104, but I put her in the tub and it went down a bit. I finally got her to take some ibuprofen, so I’ll feel better about letting her go to sleep.

The pukey feeling went away, thank goodness. Just one sick person at a time, thank you.

*waits patiently for FedEx to arrive and prays you don’t mean Britney’s ex*

Yeah, I think that was the book. *nods* But your book sounds really interesting and potentially helpful. Cool! Keep us posted. ;)

The facial sauna isn’t exciting. It’s just steam that I let soak into my face. But it puts some moisture back in. Hopefully, anyhow.
