Serenity Now

Still no overall commentary about Serenity because I’m annoying that way.

First, I must correct this quote because I’ve seen Jayne’s part quoted wrong everywhere and it’s kinda driving me nuts for no good reason. The dialog between Kaylee, Mal, and Jayne in The Maidenhead:

Kaylee: …goin’ on a year now I ain’t had nothin’ twixt my nethers weren’t run on batteries!=
Mal: Oh god! I can’t know that!
Jayne: I could stand to hear a little more…

Second, there was a scene cut out between Inara and another Companion, Sheydra, at the Training House. I’m sure it was cut for good reason (heh, and quite possibly because it hinted at girl on girl action) but I think it would have helped people understand the dynamic between Inara and Mal and would have set up why them not fighting would indicate a trap. I haven’t written up my thoughts yet but that was one of my small nitpicks with the film. I understood why Inara and Mal not fighting was a clue that something was wrong but I didn’t feel the audience would get that nor did I think Mal’s mumbled line about “did you see us fight” was clear enough. Again, those who know these two characters would get it immediately but newcomers? Not so much.

Joss’ script notes? So cute. They’re pure Joss and I love it. This is what he says when first describing the ship, “It’s not the sleekest ship in the ‘verse, to be sure.”

River had some great lines that either got trimmed out to make up some space or just didn’t play out on screen like they do in print. They are amusing me now, though.

Again, the Chinese being translated is fantastic. Now I can’t wait to re-see the movie and actually know what they’re saying.

Oh, gosh! I started reading those script notes on Saturday, and they were just SO damn good, I decided to put it back on the shelf and save it until later when I’m done dealing with the movie itself. Because then, I can wake up and be like, ‘Hey, there’s still more stuff to read’ and it will be fun. I’m sure that sounds insane but we’re not getting anymore from this ‘verse for a long time, provided that we get that damn sequel *crosses fingers tightly* and so I’m kind of stretching the new stuff out so it lasts as long as possible. Hehe.

But I did see that companion scene, which I found quite interesting. Totally understand why it needed to be cut, but loved that it was in the book just so we all know, Joss tried to fit it in. Movie’s just have way to many limitations!

I though that scene with Inara and the other companion would have also help to set up the companions themselves too… you know help explain that they’re respected, and more than just hookers. But yes, would have added a lot to the Mal/Inara story for sure.

Best book ever. :) Still giddy about just being able to buy it and take it home without a month delay.

*hugs you for helping make it possible*
