There are those who would say there is never anything to do in Orlando. It’s a lie.
For the record, these are locals who really mean that there is never anything NON-TOURISTY to do in Orlando. It’s still a lie. On any given weekend, you can ALWAYS find something to do in Orlando. And, yes, I’m talking about “local” events, not the always-there tourists activities. I do count those, though. Granted you do not always want to be dropping $100+ each weekend to go to a theme park or attend a character breakfast. That doesn’t mean you can’t find a fun activity on International Drive for less than $20 – because you can. (Hint: The Pac-Man Cafe is loads of fun for those who don’t really care about the quality of food but can amuse themselves for hours in an arcade.)
What I’m really talking about, however, are the activities found well away from the tourist locations around town. Take this weekend, for instance. There’s too much going on and it’s annoying me. I have the Relay for Life on Friday PM and Saturday AM (which rules out Sat PM since I won’t get any sleep out on that track field during the night). Then, on Sat the Florida Film Festival starts. Luckily that’s one event that I can actually still take part in as it runs for a full week and the films I’m interested in are showing throughout the week in multiple locations.
Unfortunately, that’s not true of the Dark Sky Festival that I’d like to go to on Sat PM. If you didn’t know, I’m crazy about the night sky and stars. There was a time in my life when I considered going into astronomy. Didn’t happen (obviously) but my love for those hunk of burning masses still exists. It’s been a little while since I’ve gone to the Planetarium but that’s one of my favorite things to do… it’s cheap (it’s a local community college planetarium) and fun… what more could you ask for in a Friday night activity?!
And, let us not forget that both Fever Pitch and Sahara open this weekend. With my softball game on Sun at 1PM, I won’t have much time to make it to the movies. What is a girl to do?! So much to do and so little time.
