Thanks to everyone who cast themselves last Friday! I began working on a freelance job Saturday and it’s pretty much consumed all of my non-work hous since so I haven’t had the chance to go back and reply to each of you yet, but I loved reading them throughout the week. And, uh, I realized I never cast myself! For shame.
But, moving on, it’s Friday again and once again it’s all about YOU.
How many of you tried playing Bravo/TWOP’s TV Big Shot? I wanted to do it but, in the end, I didn’t have the time for it. Plus, it was never quite the game I wanted it to be. BUT! It was kinda fun trying to think of a network for myself. So, I think that’s what we should do… forget being your own casting directory. Let’s move right up to the top of TV chain of command, baby!
Your Friday Fun task, should you choose to accept it, is to create your own network. Unlike last week, you’ve got no limitations. It can be anything you like. What you name your network? What kind of programming will you feature? Do you already know what your logo will look like? Don’t hold back, get as creative as you want!
To make up for NOT particpating last week, here’s my new network:
Name: Phoenix TV
Moniker/Acronym: PTVX
Logo: The head and wings of a fiery phoenix coming out of the top/sides of a simple television graphic. The P and X from the moniker would sit on top of the wings on either side of the television which would have the TV in the center of its screen. And the overlay logo would be awesome red and translucent… that flies on to the screen after commercial breaks instead of just popping up.(Yes, I have given this way too much thought.)
Programming: If you haven’t guessed it already, this network would be all about resurrecting shows that died before their time. For the older brillant but cancelled shows, we’d re-run the series and, if possible, try to get back the original crews for a movie. We’d have a show that does “A Look Back” at shows voted on by viewers to take a look into why the show was canceled, talk to fans about what they did to try and save the show, talk to cast members and see where they’ve gone since then, maybe some cast reunions if possible, etc. And, of course, the network would be all about giving newly canceled shows a second chance at life.
PTVX Motto: Where your favorite TV shows rise again! (I know. I know. That needs work but, give me a break, I’ve been busy thinking about the logo!)
Now, if I can just find someone to fund me…

I love your idea! I’m too brain dead to create my own, but you can pretty much bet it would be filled with OTH, GG and The OC type shows since those are all I watch these days. I wonder if I’ll ever quit being 16?
OK, this sounds weird, because I’m probably alone in my weird obsession with this…
TV Network: Writers as Creators
Abbreviation: WaC (the promotion writes itself: WaC-y! Totally WaC! WaC-ed out! :p )
Logo: Oh, geez… This is lame, but…a video screen with a pencil in the middle. Hey, graphics aren’t my strongsuit — I have a marketing department for that!!
Programming: It could start out with episodes of TV shows written by their creators (i.e., only the Joss Whedon eps of “Buffy,” only the Shonda Rhimes eps of “Grey’s Anatomy,” all the Aaron Sorkin eps of “West Wing”, etc.) New shows might air eventually, but only if the creator would do all the writing. I love eps where the creators write them, because I feel like since the creators first envisioned the characters, their interpretations are the most…valid, in a way. I don’t know.
WaC Motto: Do the “Write” Thing! (or…whatever else the marketing department comes up with
)
WCL: Hmmm, it could be the Sweet 16 Network! I kinda love the idea of a network that focuses on teen relationship type of shows. I mean, all other age groups have TV channels right? Technically so do teens I suppose… but yours would be BETTER!
Oooh, eolivet! I love it. I love the episodes written by the creators as well. I’d totally watch your network. Even if you never had original programming as far as actual shows but you could always do “commentaries” where you have creators talking about the episodes they’ve written, etc.
I’ve always thought the exclusive pursuit of the 18-49 year old demographic by the networks is misguided, especially with the aging of the Baby Boomers. I propose Mahogany Television, targeted at the 50-deceased age group. All series must contain at least one main character over 50.

Oh I love all these new networks. Can we please get them funded?
Programming: Well my network would focus on my passions – theatre and dance. And I’m throwing in singing because I have to call it Triple Threat. And it would be mix of theatre, dancing competitions, reality shows that actually focus on being a triple threat so that – unlike Dance Wars – you would get actual singing, dancing, and acting. It would also have some live shows like my show set in a dance studio, a show focusing on a small dinner theatre and I could just go on and on.
Intertwined set of three T’s for the graphic.
Moniker: 3TTV
As for motto – that one I’d have to work on a little while but I’d come up with something catchy.
